- 120 km rowing per week (average)
- 60,000 repetitions weight training per year
Juniors
- 9 — 12 Training Sessions per week (to average 500 – 900′ / week)
- 90 km rowing per week (average)
Weight training: Athletes are expected to do two or three weight training sessions each week. Core strengthening should be done daily.
Standards
- Erg: Women 7:25 ltw; 7:10 open; Men 6:25 ltw.; 6:10 open
- Water: Women 8:10 ltw.; 8:00 open; Men 7:15 ltw.; 7:05 open
Competitive Goals
- One lightweight man and one lightweight woman to rank Top 4 in the country by the end of February 2013
- Every junior rower reaches the A Final at Youth Nationals (or equivalent), including a minimum of one gold medal
- All adaptive rowers to medal at the World Championships
Costs
- $TBD per month
Training
- Coached Training Sessions Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays
- Lactate Testing: One Lactate Test per training cycle to measure performance progress
- Use of a Heart Rate Monitor is mandatory for fall and winter training. If you don’t have one, get one. If you have one, use it!
- Make sure you have a stroke meter or some other way of knowing your stroke rate at all times
- Unless otherwise instructed, every practice begins with a 4,3,2,1 on the erg (18,20,22,24 spm); record total meters covered in 10′. Other than this warm-up and for tests, all C2 erging should be done on slides
- Be on time. Unless otherwise instructed, meet on the water at the Finish Line at 7:00am sharp. We will not wait for late-comers (including coaches)
- Slower boats must start in front and stay ahead. Slow boats should turn earlier than the others and maintain their position in front. Boats falling behind risk being waked by the coach boat
- In general, row through the farthest line of buoys past the Finish Line. Never turn in front of the bows of another boat, or any other vessel; relying on another boat to stop before it hits you can be dangerous
- Keep major channel buoys off your port-side blades; this includes in the back-channel as well as in the bay
- After practice close the bay doors if you’re the last boat in the bay
- Put the slings away when you’re finished
- Hang towels to dry; don’t let them touch the ground, the grit will scratch our boats
- Complete the check-in book on the podium by the water fountains; especially if you use a club boat, or if you are on the water alone
- Minors should be properly supervised by an adult at all times.

News
Coach Scott Charette and the fours, pairs and scullers of the UCLA men’s team joined us for practice on Saturday December 10 and stayed to compete at the next day’s Bay series race. Many of the UCLA men rowed with us last summer and we look forward to seeing them again in 2012.
